World: Then & Now – What has Changed with Mobile Technologies
I am a 90s kid, and I have witnessed an era of change. I have seen people gradually becoming familiar with dialling a number on the landline telephones. And I have met people who were the only ones with a pager, and that they were also the first in their circle to get a mobile phone?
Yes, all that happened right before my eyes, and here I am today, living in times that are far beyond the dawn of technology. All the change in digital technology has been so gradual that the adoption was not even hard for people because the technology slowly crawled into our lives. So far, we have reached the era of mobile apps and let’s say that it is incredible how we can call a taxi to our door compared to how we used to send pigeons for communications. Okay maybe the pigeon part was too far-fetched, but you catch the drift, right?
Different sectors have had their times of growth, and nowadays, the world of business is all about mobile technologies and their applications. It is the time of innovation and augmentation of the existing technologies, in which mobile app development companies have a significant role.
In this article, we are going to go analytical about how digital technologies got us where we are today:
Mobile apps:
Year 2000 – there are mobile phones, multimedia, but the revenue from mobile data and related services around the world is $105 million. Following a decade, the markets have crossed $500 billion, and one of the biggest reasons behind this revenue growth is the introduction of smartphones that have necessitated the presence of mobile phones for individuals as well as corporate entities as part of BYOD policies.
But what is it that actually makes a smartphone, smart? Yes, it is the mobile apps. According to Statista, mobile app market was valued at $88 billion in year 2016, which is set to reach up to $189 billion till 2020. These statistics do show quite a rapid rate of growth, but then, it isn’t too hard to believe, given the demand for mobile apps that has increased to $205 billion, which is a sharp 15% increase over $178 billion in 2017. These figures, released by Statista also speak of how mobile apps are going to achieve a market share of $258 billion by the year 2022.
Such tremendous growth in the mobile app development industry is a clear indicator of how we depend upon technology as the market has been created by our demands itself.

Transport:
Finding a man calling “Taxi” from across the road is such a blurry memory now. Travis Kalanick, founder of Uber, in an interview explained everything about why our transport system had to take a spin. In an interview with Business Insider, he says “We just wanted to push a button and get a ride. And it had to be a classy ride”. The two statements by him make a lot of sense on why taxi aggregation was important.
Taxi aggregation business is ruled by Uber today, a proof of which is that the company is valued at $72 billion at present. People will put their money anywhere and everywhere they find convenience. Plus, they need assurance on not being cheated by the cab service they use. These are two major reasons behind why taxi aggregation was set to discover so much potential. And with more than 100 million downloads on Play Store alone, Uber, at present, is what we always demanded to be sure of better service and price at the same time.
Apart from this, there are navigation apps like Google Maps that people use to commute every day. No matter where you, excluding forests, Himalayas, and other inaccessible locations for obvious reasons, Google Maps and Apple Maps can help you reach any corner of the world by bringing up a map that provides turn-by-turn navigation assistance.
