Top Exciting Initiatives that Google has taken for India
Google, in terms of reputation and importance, is incontrovertibly the biggest organization in the world, at present. From being one of the top mobile app development companies to the one that’s playing with Artificial Intelligence at the same time, it is basically into everything. Apart from a few countries that chose not to, Google has affected the entire world positively, in some or the other way. What makes the Alphabet Inc. (umbrella organization for Google) even bigger than we know, is its will to change the world and build a better tomorrow with Internet of Things solution, Machine Learning, Data Science and what not.
Under the leadership of an Indian CEO Mr. Sundar Pichai, Google has taken many initiatives around the world, including India. In past few years, India has greatly benefitted from some of the programs launched by Google, in order to empower people, as well as the economy of India. Here are some of the top initiatives in India by Google:
Railwire
Termed by Mr. Pichai as world’s largest public Wi-Fi network, Railwire is a joint collaboration of Google and RailTel to provide free Wi-Fi access on more than 100 railway stations all over India. The initiative works on a fibre network provided by RailTel, which runs by the side of 70% of the railways lines in the country. Google aims to spread the Railwire network to more than 400 cities across India.
Digital Unlocked
With an aim to fortify hundreds of thousands of micro, small and medium sector enterprises, Google joined hands with the Digital Unlocked Programme with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Indian Business School, Hyderabad. Digital Unlocked is an integrated training program that focuses on educating entrepreneurs on the concepts of digital marketing through digital. The major skills an entrepreneur can acquire from Digital Unlocked are creating brand awareness with the use of internet, highly-dynamic digital marketing campaigns, boosting sales, and keeping a tab on the competition.
To opt for the training program, one can visit https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalunlocked/ and get registered as an individual learner or enterprise. Another option to acquire digital skills through mobile is Google Primer, which is a mobile app that aims at inculcating digital skills in budding entrepreneurs.
Google My Business (GMB)
Google My Business was launched to help Indian companies register themselves on Google and get more website traffic through global recognition. Other than that, the best thing about the utility is that it also provides tools for entrepreurs to gain presence on different platforms. With Google My Business one can create a website and keep tabs on website activities such as website traffic, bounce rate, call-to-action rate and more. Not only has the utility allowed businesses to track website activities, it has indirectly showed millions of entrepreneurs a way to build customer loyalty through interaction on website.
Internet Saathi
Exclusively aimed at women empowerment, Google’s Internet Saathi initiatives, at present, has reached 100,000 villages, availing more jobs in rural areas. In partnership with Tata Trusts, Google has been consistently trying to bridge the gender-gap in India, where women can hardly work in villages due to lack of jobs and, somewhat, confidence. In this initiative, more than 25000 Internet Saathi volunteers are reaching out to women in 100,000 villages and educating them on digital grounds, with the help of smartphones powered by internet.
More than 10 Indian states have joined this initiative by Google to employ these women, who are skilled and aware of digital technology. In coming years, Google plans to expand to 200,000 more villages, as the response from the women who were trained, has been overwhelming. According to Google’s report on Internet Saathi, 90% women said they have developed a better understanding of the internet and another 30% said they realised internet can help them gain financial stability.
Made for India
To identify the best mobile app developers across India, Google launched the Made for India initiative, which identifies the best talents in mobile app development in India, and features their creation on Google Play Store for a period of time. Under the program, App Excellence Summit was also launched, which was a one-day summit to encourage mobile app developers to build quality apps by educating them about the best tools and platforms offered by Google, and also sharing some of the best tips they could utilize. Reportedly, more than 700 Indian app and mobile game developers joined the event and shared views on present and future scenario of mobile development in India.
Conclusion:
Google claims to be an unconventional company that doesn’t for profits, rather on creating impacts and spreading value with its action across the globe. And from the initiatives it has launched in India, it is quite apparent that Google is aiming to build a sustainable future where people are free from dependencies and have a direction in life to further encourage upcoming generations to follow the path of sustainable development.
